Fireplace Class is part of the bricklayer apprenticeship training program but the classes are open to journeylevel bricklayer members. Classes will be offered on January 27th - 31st . The class consists of four 10-hour days.
This 40-hour course is designed to provide the BAC craftworker with training in the following areas:
- Building codes that apply to fireplace construction
- Layout and design of fireplaces
- Building a firebox with firebrick and refractory mortar
- Building a smoke chamber
- Designing and building a fireplace face
- Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of a Rumford vs. a conventional fireplace
- Safety considerations when building fireplaces and chimneys
